MAN ARRESTED FOR FORGING KNUST ADMISSIONS LETTER

Kumasi, Oct.14, GNA - Security personnel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), have arrested James Opoku, a 21-year-old disabled man, for allegedly forging admission letter of the Medical School of the University.
The suspect, who was dismissed from the Kumasi High School in 2006, was arrested when he tried to acquire a student identity card at the Great Hall of the University.

Mr. Kwame Yeboah Jnr, Assistant Registrar in charge of admissions at KNUST, told the GNA that the suspect was arrested when another person's picture appeared on the University database after his (suspect) name and particulars on the admission letter were typed into the University folder.

Captain Moses Gedzah (rtd), Deputy head of KNUST Security, on Wednesday in Kumasi, told GNA that Opoku was granted bail and asked to report to his office on Monday but failed to do so and was re-arrested on Wednesday at the lecture hall of the Medical School.

The head of KNUST security said investigations revealed that Opoku dropped out of school in 2006 due to a protracted illness.

According to Captain Gedzah, the suspect said he wrote the November Remedial Examinations and also obtained a 8.A, which he claimed was used in securing admission. Opuku has been handed over to the KNUST Police and were carrying out further investigations into the case.

After a primary victory in March 2004, Obama delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004. He was elected to the Senate in November 2004 with 70% of the vote.

As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, he helped create legislation to control conventional weapons and to promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds. He also made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During the 110th Congress, he helped create legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel. After announcing his presidential campaign in February 2007, Obama emphasized withdrawing American troops from Iraq, energy independence, decreasing the influence of lobbyists, and promoting universal health care as top national priorities.

GHANA QULIFIES FOR U-20 AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS

Ghana has sealed a return to the African Youth Championships after a 1-0 win by the Black Satellites over Gambia in Banjul.The national U-20 side had travelled to the West African neighbours completely written off but they are taking Ghana to the youth championships again after a six year absence thanks to Abeiku Quansah's goal.
The fact that it was the France-based striker who scored the goal will particularly thrill Sellas Tetteh who made some big calls in the build-up to this game, including dropping Ransford Osei and bringing in Quansah.Tetteh was naturally delighted with the win. "I said we will do it and we did it," he said afterwards.

RIO;My inspiration to play football was probably Diego Maradona. He’s the first memory I have of someone doing something really great. I remember in the 1986 World Cup he took on the whole England team and scored. Obviously I wasn’t happy that he scored against England but you had to admire the skill and say, ‘I’d love to be able to do that one day’. Bechem Chelsea justified their inclusion into the national Premier League after they defeated Brong Ahafo United 1-0 in their decisive Middle League match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday.The 'Blue and White' lads were full of joy as they removed their jerseys after the match waving to the spectators and went on a victory lab in jubilation with their few fans cheering giving them rousing applause on the stands while B/A United players and officials also engaged in arguments with the match officials on the touch line for alleged bad officiating.It took the few security men on duty at the stadium to cool down tempers.It was a match which Chelsea needed just a draw to qualify while B/A needed a must-win and it was against this background that when Referee Laud Vuvor who handled the match saw it ending goalless in the first half with both teams squandering begging chances.In the fifth minute, Ransford Osei had an opportunity to put his side up after dribbling through forest of legs of the Chelsea defenders but his shot at goal missed the posts narrowly.B/A continued to pile pressure for the opener but the defence of Chelsea stood gallantly to thwart all their effort. JOHN PAINSTIL SEALS FULHAM CONTRACT

Ghana's number one right back,John painstil have signed a three year deal with premiership side fulham.

Premier League Fulham completed the double signing of defender John Pantsil and striker Bobby Zamora from London rivals West Ham United.
Zamora signed a four-year deal while Ghana's Pantsil signed for three years. Fulham's website (www.fulhamfc.com) said the two players had cost a combined 6.3 million pounds ($12.59 million).
Pantsil played for Ghana in this year's African Nations Cup.

16 DIE IN ROAD ACCIDENT

16 die as two vehicles plunge into river Offin

- At least 16 people died on Sunday when a Mercedes 207 bus ran into a KIA Pride taxi on a bridge over River offin, dragging it along as both cars plunged into the river, police said.There were at least seven survivors, including the two drivers, some of them on admission at the Saint Patrick Hospital at Offinso, Mr Kojo Appiagyei, Offinso Divisional Police Commander, told the sabitonline.
Preliminary reports suggested that the bus developed a mechanical failure, leading to the accident which occurred at Amoako in the Afigya-Kwabre District of Ashanti.Mr Appiagyei said the corpses, comprising 13 males and three females, had been deposited at the hospital morgue. They were retrieved by a joint team of the Ghana National Fire Service, National Disaster Management Organisation and the Police, assisted by the local people.Three of the survivors -- Mr. Yaw Bannie, 42, Mr. Kofi Ntim Sarpong, 47 and Abena Achiaa, 15 -- all passengers on the bus, told the Ghana News Agency at the hospital that the vehicle's brakes failed when they got to Amoako.Meanwhile, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah, Defence Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya-Sekyere, Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister and Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Seth Oteng, have visited the scene.

SPAIN END TITLE DROUGHT

After fourty four years of playing in europes high contested cup,spain have finally win the ultimate trophy after beating their arch rivals Germany by a lone goal at vienna in Switzerland.

Spain had the opener through their number one prolific liverpool striker,Fernando torres late in the first half and were able to hold on the scoreline till the end of the game.Playing without the tournaments leading goal scorer,Spain knew they had lost player who could have contributed a lot in the finals.

Jens lehman being the oldest player to play in the finals with 39 years made some decent saves to save his side from conceding more goals in the second half as Spain kept on pressuring the german side until the final whistle.Spanish coach Luis Aragones also made history for becoming the oldest coach to lift the trophy.

All the same,it was a spectacular game which lived to its expectation and to me,Spain deserved to victory.They went throughout the tournerment without a lose by beating all their counterparts,they had the tournerment's best scorer and they played as a team with Cassilas as the skipper of the side.And again,thgere is no doubt that Fernando Torres is currently the best plaey in the world.

As a sports fan,i really enjoyed the game even though none of the two finalists was my team.To Gausu SOSDEF,i know u were extremely happy because your darling striker played very well and scored the only goal of the game.
