DOS SANTOS FOR TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS

SPURS SEAL DOS SANTOS DEAL
Tottenham coach Juande Ramos hailed Giovani dos Santos as an "exciting signing" after the London club finalised his move from Barcelona for an initial £4.7 million.

The 19-year-old Mexico international, who signed a five-year deal, could cost Spurs £8.6million depending on appearances.

But Ramos is already convinced that he has landed a player who could set the Premier League alight.

"If Giovani progresses as we hope, he will be a terrific player," said Ramos.

"This is a young player with a lot of potential, who I have watched for some time.

"For us it is an exciting signing because he has excellent quality, he operates well in different positions and, above all, is technically excellent."

Barcelona have retained the right to 20% of any fee should the teenager move on from Spurs in the next two years and they will get 10% of any fee if he is sold later in his contract.

Giovani was delighted to have clinched his move to the London club after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

He said: "It's a dream to come to a big club like Spurs. I came here because of the passion of the fans, the size of the club and I can see us growing in the future."

Tottenham's Sporting Director Damien Comolli is convinced that Giovani will be a massive asset for the club.

"Giovani possesses a great combination of physical power and explosivity, along with fine technical skills," said Comolli.

"He is someone who can create and score goals.

"He is young but not without experience and will be a great asset for the club.

"The fact we have a Spanish speaking coaching staff, as well as Gilberto, will help him adapt, settle quickly and I believe he has the skills to be successful in England."

The youngster joined Barcelona five years ago and came through the youth ranks at the Nou Camp.

He was selected for the first team under former boss Frank Rijkaard last season - scoring a hat-trick in the final league game of the season as Barcelona beat Murcia 5-3.

Giovani can also play in attack or in a support role behind a main striker and helped Mexico to win the world under-17 championship in Peru three years ago.

Meanwhile, Arsenal striker Carlos Vela believes his international team-mate will finally get the chance to show off his talents at White Hart Lane.

Vela, who has yet to appear for the Gunners after spending the last two seasons on loan at Celta Vigo, Salamanca and Osasuna in Spain, came to prominence alongside Giovani when the two spearheaded Mexico's strike force in the country's Under-17 World Cup triumph.

Vela signed for Arsenal shortly after that tournament, but was forced to go out on loan due to work permit requirements.

Giovani was already contracted to Barcelona at that point and looked set to follow in the illustrious footsteps of fellow youth team graduate Lionel Messi.

"I am happy for him," Vela said.

"I hope things go well for him at Tottenham, that he gets the minutes (on the pitch) he wasn't given at Barcelona and that he shows what he can do."

REAL TO OFFER C. RONALDO $300K A WEEK

Much of the English press are reporting that the Portuguese phenomenon will be earning the astronomical figure - comfortably over twice as much as the next highest earners in the sport - in a five-year contract worth a staggering record £75 million.Los Blancos are reported to have made it clear to the player's representatives that the offer will not be on the table in a year's time - which is when it is now rumoured Ronaldo will eventually make his 'dream' move.It was stated late last week that Ronaldo would make a final decision on his future in the coming days and rumours emerged yesterday that the winger had told family and close friends of his plan to leave the club, though there were conflicting reports released hours earlier that the player would stay on for a further year at Old Trafford.

Whether Ronaldo will make his intentions public before Euro 2008 has run its course is yet another piece of this complex puzzle, while Manchester United bosses have said they would sooner let their star rot in the stands than sell him to los Merengues.Various transfer fees have been banded about in relation to the 23-year-old, but it will without doubt take a world record-breaking amount - meaning over the £46 million paid by Madrid to Juventus for Zinedine Zidane in 2001.

While these incredible sums of money may seem even beyond the world's most successful club, the president and numerous directors have assured the world that, with the money generated after the player's arrival, he would produce more than enough revenue to cover his own cost.Real Madrid have on numerous occasions done their bit to try and placate Manchester United management - who have been furious with the continued approach for their player - by saying the signing would be 'impossible', but only to temper such a statement with a look to the future, and the Portuguese international's 'inevitable' signing for the club.

Information reaching the sports desk of http://www.sabitonline.blogspot.com/ indicate that the portuguese will make his own decision before the kick off of EURO 2008 this saturday.

Today's Featured Idea...
Forever Young
My boyfriend of two and a half years has his 20th birthday coming up in two weeks. Since he's turning 20, making him an "official adult" and no longer a teenager, I'm taking him out the night before for burgers and ice cream and then we're meeting some of his friends at Playdium so that he can just hang out and play video games all night and be as immature as he wants. The best part is that he won't be expecting anything until his birthday but the whole celebration will be taking place the day before. On his actual birthday I'll give him his real gift and then go out to dinner with him and his parents.

TAWRICK JIBRIL SEAL ATHLETICO MOVE

Ater initially expressing their dissatisfaction on some portions of the terms involved in Tawrick Jibril's transfer to Spanish La Liga side, Atletico Madrid, the management of Accra Hearts of Oak has finally released the player to go for his medical with the Spanish outfit. Reliable reports have confirmed to 90 Minutes that the management of Accra Hearts of Oak last Friday released all relevant documents relating to the player's trip to Spain to his manager. It is believed Hearts have released a letter of consent to Atletico Madrid officials suggesting they are in full support of the player's trip to Spain.
Confirming the story to 90 Minutes, the manager of the player, Prince Umar said that once he has taken custody of all relevant documents concerning the trip, they would depart Accra tomorrow, Tuesday to Madrid, Spain to undergo a medical examination and if the player is successful, he would sign on the dotted lines. “Because the laws of the game recognise the player as a minor, I would be embarking on the journey with him
We hope to go through the medical examination successfully in order to seal the deal.If everything goes through as expected, we would return to Accra after two weeks before the player goes back to Spain to commence his professional career.” Umar continued, “We accepted the 1m euro offer from Atletico because Arsenal were not forthcoming and I did not want this opportunity to slip through our fingers. I am happy for Jibril because as part of the agreement he would stay with the first team and not the junior side as is being speculated”. Jibril will sign a three year deal if he passes the medicals.

ETO'O COULD FACE PRISON SENTENCE

Authorities have opened an investigation and have already had a lot of people come forward stating that they will testify against the Barcelona striker.

Other journalists who were present are outraged by the player's actions and are calling for him to face strong punishment for his assault of one of their own.

Philippe Boney was left with two fractures and severe bruising on his face after allegedly being headbutted by Eto'o in the frenzy.

Witnesses also claim that other players that were present took cameras off journalists that had pictures that could have been used as evidence.

The problems started when the press refused to ask questions in protest at Cameroon holding a private training session ahead of the game against Cape Verde. Eto'o was unhappy at the silence and began to insult the journalists and became angry when they shouted back.

If the investigation finds that there is a case to answer then Eto'o will go before a judge to explain himself and has already been warned that he could face between six months and five years in prison.

The former Real Madrid and Mallorca star is currently the subject of interest from both AC Milan and Inter, but Barcelona have attempted to fend them both off by placing a €50m price tag on his head.

As a football fan,im reall disturbed that a player like Samuel Eto'o could be missing on the field of play due to mere insults.
Any way, lets all pray that nothing will happen to the cameroun born deadly striker.

OBAMA MAKES HISTORY.

Barack Obama has done what many just a year ago thought was impossible. He took on the most powerful family in Democratic politics and won.
On Tuesday, Obama became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, marking the first time an African-American will head the ticket of a major political party.
The first-term senator captured the Democratic nomination by beating out Sen. Hillary Clinton, who was hoping to become the first female nominee.
He also had to campaign against the senator's husband, former President Bill Clinton, one of the great political talents of the 20th century who, at least going into the primary season, enjoyed widespread popularity among Democrats.
During one debate, Obama wondered out loud if he was running against the wife or the husband, given the former president's high profile on the campaign trail. The two Democratic candidates fought a protracted and, at times, bitter battle that carried them through every state and brought nearly 35 million of their supporters to the polls.
When Obama declared his candidacy in February 2007, he faced an uphill battle. Clinton, a former first lady and New York senator, was the favored candidate.

GBC Email: Lower age for Presidency Obuor

GBCGHANA saw this story on the GBC website and thought you should see it.

** Lower age for Presidency – Obuor **
Hiplife musician, Bice Osei-Kuffuor, aka Obuor, has veered off the showbiz arena where he has laid his claim into the unfamiliar territory of politics to launch a vigorous campaign for a constitutional amendment to reduce the minimum age for qualification to contest the high office of President of Ghana. "I believe the Constitution is not fair to the youth by pegging the age to contest for the Presidency at 40 …. Cutting out the youth entirely from holding that position is not good for the nation. I know elsewhere, it is not 40 but they have a very good economy", he said.
