Court Adjourns woyome' judgements dept case

Commercial Court in Accra has adjourned the suit filed by the Attorney General against the judgement debt awarded NDC financier Alfred Agbesi Woyome to February 14.

The Attorney General last month filed a suit at the Commercial Court to challenge payment made to Alfred Woyome as a result a judgment debt he won.

But the Minister of Justice and Attorney General Martin Amidu who was in court on Monday pleaded with the trial judge to adjourn the case after raising an issue that he has filed an amendment statement to amend his earlier writ and claims.

According to Joy News Editor, Sampson Lardy Ayenini, lawyers for Alfred Woyome who felt the case has unduly been delayed asked the court to award cost against the A-G.

But the judge stepped in to indicate that the submission is incorrect; he observed that the delay was not at the instance of the Attorney General.

The judge further explained that the case was delayed because both parties had informed the court that they had decided to to settle the case out of court.

Sampson Ayenini who has been following the case reports that the Attorney General told him in an interview, after the adjournment, that "fundamental constitutional issues" have been discovered by his outfit with respect to the whole saga.

He gathered that the A-G would seek to challenge how the company led by Mr Woyome managed to secure such a huge contract with the government without parliamentary approval.

Also the capacity of Alfred Woyome to bring a suit against the state would also be considered, A-G Martin Amidu hinted.

POLITICS CORNER--*Atta Mill's year of action- just delusional*

Previous
Page
Weeks before Christmas last
year, President Mills declared
2011 a year of action.
On that occasion, Mr Atta Mills
assured the people of Ghana
that the year 2011 will be the
year Ghanaians will witness the
execution and implementation of
most of the promises his
government has made to them.
“Time is not on our side and we
want the year 2011 to be a year
of action. Our people are very
expectant and justifiably so
because we have made them
aware of the generosity of our
brothers and sisters from China.
They know that there are a lot
of things in the pipeline and they
are itching to see what is going
to be on the ground”, said the
President to the admiration of
expectant Ghanaians.
Some months before the
declaration of the Mills-Mahama
action year, 21st September to
be precise, the government`s
propaganda outfit got very busy.
The expectations of the
Ghanaians were raised to yet
another level. We were brazenly
told by the NDC propaganda
machinery that President John
Evans Atta Mills and his Chinese
counterpart, Mr Hu Jintao, had
signed a deal for China to give
Ghana a loan of three billion
dollars to develop her energy
sector. We were excited, and
rightly so, because we read this:
“Specific areas to be targeted
under the deal include
infrastructure development, job
creation and the development
and other derivatives of oil and
gas. The package, which would
be disbursed through the China
Bank, constitutes the first phase
of Chinese assistance, which
would start rolling out in the
next six months after the
Government of Ghana has
devised a framework for the
package.”
Ladies and gentlemen, nine
months into the signing of this
“unprecedented” loan package
and six months after the
President declared this year an
action year, the people of Ghana
are yet to have a taste of these
sweet promises. The 3 billion
USD we were promised is
nowhere to be found.
Many Ghanaians have been left
disillusioned by the non-
performance of this President.
Members of his own party have
been left baffled by the level of
incompetence being displayed by
President Mills.
Former First Lady, Nana Konadu
Agyeman-Rawlings, who is
contesting Prof John Evans Atta
Mills for the flagbearership
position of the ruling National
Democratic Congress (NDC), told
Ghanaians recently the President
is superintending over a corrupt
government.
"The people have not seen any
improvement in their lives and
there is massive corruption all
over the place," she said to the
amazement of the good people
of Ghana.
Nana Konadu also told us in
plain language that the man she
and her husband imposed on us
has not been able to deliver on
the numerous promises he made
to the Ghanaian electorate prior
to the 2012 elections which saw
him becoming President of the
Republic, since areas like Accra,
the capital city, is still reeling
under acute water shortage
whilst the electricity situation has
worsened. What did we do to
deserve this bunch of
incompetent folks ruling and
making a mess of the nation
Ghana? Just a year into the Mills-
Mahama presidency, the loud
mouthed deputy minister of
information, Mr Samuel
Ablakwah shamelessly told us his
government has created 1.6
million jobs only for Mr E.T.
Mensah, Mills` minister for
Employment, to disassociate
himself from it.
In 2008, Candidate Mills
promised prosperity for all
Ghanaians, irrespective of one’s
political affiliation. Today, what
do we see? More than half a
million more Ghanaians have
fallen below the poverty line
since 2009.
True to his words, the
President`s action year has lived
by its name. Sadly, the action he
and his party promised is far
from the action Ghanaians are
expecting from their president. In
the action year, we have been
living witnesses to the resurgence
of bitter feuds within his party.
Yesterday, it was FONKAR and
GAME, today it`s OLONKAR and
SADAM, the action year of
acronyms. The President has
absolutely no control over his
own party, of which he is the
leader; and you will be deceiving
yourself big time if you should
believe the man is in charge of
the affairs of the country.
Do you remember the much
touted STX Korean housing
project? When you ask them
about STX and when the billion
dollar project will start rolling,
they will tell you it will start next
month, next month and next
month. The truth of the matter is
that STX is dead and cannot be
resurrected.
Of course, there are some
actions going on. We have a
desperate President going from
village to village and town to
town commissioning 200 projects
here, 500 projects there and a
thousand projects all over the
place. Today, NDC foot soldiers
are in firm control of the
country. They hire and fire as
they please without the President
uttering a word. Ghana, today, is
a polarized nation, being
governed like it was in George
Owen`s animal farm. During
Atta Mills’ time, the Gas have
had the misfortune of witnessing
the installation of a second, or is
it a third chief?
Ever since Atta Mills`NDC
government took over the
realms of affairs of the nation,
there have been numerous calls
from activists and government
officials of the party asking for
the head of the country`s Chief
Justice. We all remember the
infamous “kill the cat” statement
made by no other person than
the chairman of Atta Mills NDC
party. Many such calls have since
followed suit.
Quite recently, a group that calls
itself the Network of Social
Democrats gave Justice Georgina
Theodora Wood fourteen days
to resign her office, alleging her
regime had failed woefully to
maintain professional standards
in the judiciary, saying either she
resigns or they would force her
out of office “through the
narrow window”. Quite sadly, we
had people like Kwesi Pratt jr.
supporting this shameful and
irresponsible call.
In their desperate attempt to
maintain its stranglehold on
power, the Mills-Mahama
government has resorted to
dubious plan by coming up with
something called the NDC
Heroes’ Fund, a monetary
inducement fund to recruit
desperate NDC foot soldiers to
help the party maintain political
power at all cost. Meanwhile, the
country`s external debt is
escalating by the day. It is a fact
that Ghana's debt stands at
$13.4 billion, up from around
$8.1 billion when President John
Atta Mills was elected into office
in late 2008. One may ask; what
happened to all this money? His
ministers and appointees are
“chopping” like there is no
tomorrow.
Ghanaians are suffering and they
cannot wait for 2011 to come for
them to show this incompetent
government where power lies.
Today, everywhere you go in
Ghana, the song on the lips of
our people is the same “enkoyie”
and “Atta adaada yen”. Indeed
Atta has been a phenomenal
failure and disappointing. This is
a president Ghanaians do not
deserve. Our country needs to
move forward and we shall
surely do so come 2012 with a
competent, forward looking and
inspirational president. Nana
Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo is
tomorrow`s man.

ABDUL BASIT's bechem chelsea wins PRESIDENTS CUPABDUL BASIT's bechem chelsea wins PRESIDENTS CUP

Uncrowned league champions,
Bechem Chelsea Friday beat
Kumasi Asante Kotoko 9:8 on
penalties in a controversy-strewn
game to lift the 2011 Republic
Day Cup, otherwise called The
President’s Cup.
The game to mark Ghana's 51st
Republican anniversary had
ended 2:2 in regulation.
Kotoko had taken a 19th minute
lead through Alex Asamoah but
fell behind the more aggressive
Chelsea side as Gladson Awako
(21st) and Bismark Idan (38th)
romped home the needed
equalizer and lead in the game
that saw referee Mohammed
Awal regularly disputing the calls
of his two assistants.
It took a brainy lob of the ball
by Fatawu Mohammed over a
stranded Chelsea goalkeeper
Ernest Sowah in the 60th minute
to restore Asante Kotoko’s
hopes, however no further goals
were registered in the game
watched by Vice President John
Mahama and thus sent the game
into a shootout.
Referee Mohammed Awal, who
was seen just ahead of the
penalties in a conference with
the two goalkeepers; Ernest
Sowah and Soulama Abdoulaye
for Kotoko, on two occasions
ordered the replay of missed
kicks by Chelsea – one saved by
Soulama and the other
rebounding off the bar – on the
grounds that the goalkeeper had
moved ahead of the kicks.
The decision irked the Kotoko
side who threatened to walk off
the pitch until FA president
Kwasi Nyantakyi intervened. But
a section of Kotoko fans
registered their anger by
throwing bagged water at the
match officials.
The two sides eventually cleared
their five-apiece kicks, ushering
the game into sudden death –
with Asante Kotoko scoring the
sixth kick but missing the seventh
when Prince Anokye’s kick was
saved by Ernest Sowah.
Vice President John Mahama
presented the trophy to a
jubilant Chelsea side.

OH AFRICA!! COTE D'IVOIRE: Fear, mayhem as supreme court declares Gbagbo as winner after OUATARA has been declared winner by ELECTORAL COMMISSION

DAKAR, 3 December 2010 (IRIN)
- People across Abidjan
shuttered shops and offices and
rushed home fearing violence
after the Constitutional Council
on 3 December declared Laurent
Gbagbo winner of Côte d’Ivoire’s
presidential election – nullifying
provisional results released by
the Independent Electoral
Commission (CEI) the previous
day.
The CEI had named Alassane
Ouattara the winner, taking 54
percent of the vote, against 46
percent for Gbagbo. But
rejecting the CEI ’s work, the
Constitutional Council ruled for
Gbagbo, giving him 51 per cent
of the vote against 49 for
Ouattara. The Council
discounted the votes from seven
departments in the north
- generally areas favouring
Ouattara - noting “flagrant
irregularities”.
News of the dramatic
turnaround brought people onto
to the streets in some
neighbourhoods of Abidjan, the
economic capital, some
reportedly burning cars and
shops. A local resident in the
Marcory area said: “It‘s calm
here for now, but people fear
things could quickly degenerate.
You see smoke coming from
neighbouring districts and you
think: ‘that means buildings are
being burned’. People are wary.”
“From now everything is possible
from demonstrations to civil
war, ” International Crisis Group
senior West Africa analyst
Rinaldo Depagne told IRIN.
Ivoirians and the international
community had hoped the long-
overdue elections would put the
country on the road to ending
eight years of bitter and often
violent division. An insurgency
that started with a coup attempt
in September 2002 led to the de
facto partition of Côte d ’Ivoire,
with rebels occupying a vast part
of the country, particularly the
north.
The 28 November run-off
election pitted Gbagbo against
his long-time political rival
Ouattara in a contest that took
place against a backdrop of
inter-ethnic tensions and political
polarization.
While both rounds of voting
went ahead without major
disruption, the post-election
period brought a return of the
volatility that has accompanied
previous elections, with both
sides accusing the other of
strong-arm tactics amidst a
barrage of appeals for calm
from the UN, the United States,
the African Union and others.
The announcement of
completely different sets of
results by two key institutions has
presented the UN with a
particularly difficult scenario.
Speaking shortly after the
Constitutional Council’s
announcement of a Gbagbo
victory, the Special
Representative of the UN
Secretary-General in Côte
d ’Ivoire Choi Young-jin
recognized the results issued by
the CEI result, making Ouattara
winner. The Security Council has
already warned from New York
of the need to respect the CEI ’s
work and hinted at measures
that could be taken if the right
procedures are not respected.
A senior official with Gbagbo’s
Front Populaire ivoirien party
dismissed external players, saying
that Côte d ‘Ivoire would take
little notice of external criticism
on the handling of the elections.
“We do not need the
international community.” He
said that the incumbent would
now show himself to be a truly
national leader, “bringing all
Ivorians together and
establishing the state ’s authority
across national territory.”
But Crisis Group's Depagne and
other watchers say Gbagbo ’s
staying in power would mean the
country would remain divided.
Even when the Ggabgo
government on 2 December
ordered borders closed, borders
with Mali, Liberia, Burkina Faso
and Ghana in the rebel north
remained open, residents in the
north told IRIN.
Depagne said Gbagbo and his
entourage appear to be looking
solely at the immediate goal of
staying in power.
“If his only objective is to keep
power, he can do it. But what
kind of power would he have?
None of the money pledged by
donors and private investors
would come in. It would be a
rogue state for the next two or
three years; an unending legal
row is also likely. ”
People in the centre-north town
of Bouaké – the rebels' base
since the 2002 uprising – say they
will not accept the reversal, a
Ouattara supporter there told
IRIN.
“What I am hearing from people
is that Alassane Ouattara is the
president – that makes him the
head of state and they are not
going to accept what comes
from Laurent Gbagbo. ”
He warned there is likely to be
strong resistance within the
military. “My impression is that
most soldiers voted for Ouattara.
I am sure that within 48 hours
there will be a military uprising. If
people do not watch it, the
country is going to head back to
war. ”
Corinne Dufka, senior West
Africa researcher for Human
Rights Watch, said: “Laurent
Gbagbo has acted with utter
disregard for the rights of his
people to freely and fairly elect
their leader, a right they have
waited way too long to exercise."

ABDUL BASIT scores as CHELSEA came from behind to beat KOTOKO by 3-2 @ the BABAYARA stadium

Players of Kumasi Asante Kotoko were holed up in their dressing
room at the Baba Yara Stadium
after slumping to a 3:2 defeat at
the hands of visiting Bechem
Chelsea.
Angry fans were bent on
physically attacking the players,
and it was the timely intervention
of the police who moved to
block the menacing march of the
restive fans that saved the
situation.
The fans suspect the players
were deliberately playing their
games half-heartedly in spite of
efforts by the management and
technical teams.
Ironically, it was Asante Kotoko
who raced into an early two-goal
lead in this 13th week league
encounter, raising hopes of a
rebound after defender Prince
Boateng finished off a counter-
attack while a second followed
courtesy an 'own goal' credited
to Ofosu Appiah who hurled in a
shot for goal.
By the 15th minute, Asante
Kotoko were two goals up, but
surprisingly, that was all they had
to offer as the league leaders
unleashed a spirited 'reprisal' to
end the day at 3:2. Yaw
Alexander, Abdul Basit and
Emmanuel Clottey were the
marksmen for Chelsea.
ABDUL BASIT's equalisin goal was no doubt the best goal of the week as he single handedly created space before finally taken a spectacular shot to register his name on the scoresheet for the first time against kotoko.
The result left Kotoko with only
a point from their last six league
games, and the fans believed
they had had enough.
At Kpando, Accra Hearts of Oak
were also forced to surrender an
otherwise growing myth after
Lions canceled a Douglas
Nkrumah first half strike to settle
for a one-all draw. Many a
Hearts fan held that it was
impossible to score again in a
game once Nkrumah netted,
however Hearts left Kpando with
their tails firmly tucked away
after a late Lions ’ siege almost
doubled their own share of the
goals.
In Tamale, Real Tamale United
recorded their second win in the
league, seeing off Kessben FC by
a lone goal.
Liberty Professionals were
merciless, pumping four past an
otherwise enterprising B.A. Stars
at the Carl Reindorf Park,
Dansoman, while Ashantigold
also shot down defending
champions Aduana by a lone
goal.
Tottering Mighty Jets maintained
winning ways and came from a
goal down to pip New Edubiase
at the Accra Stadium.
At Berekum, Arsenals were held
to a goalless game by King Faisal
just as Wa All Stars also split the
points with Dwarfs after playing
goalless.

Hearts pip Kotoko in cliff-hanger by 1-0 @ de BABAYARA STADIUM in kumasi

Hearts of Oak clinched a
priceless 1-0 victory over arch-
rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko at
the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in
a game that produced everything
football has to offer, except a
red card.
Twice referee Cecil Fletcher had
it right when he disallowed Obed
Ansah ’s goals in the first half and
twice had it wrong when he
disallowed legitimate penalty
appeals from the Phobians in the
second half.
Suffice to say, the match ought
not to have ended 1-0, but it
did, thanks to Obed Ansah, the
player who inspired and
frustrated the Phobians with
equal measure.
It was the Porcupine Warriors
who went on the rampage early
in the first half with sweet little
runs from Louis Agyemang and
Alex Asamoah, one of which
forced a Hollywood save from
goal keeper Sammy Adjei in the
11th minute.
Agyemang flicked a header on
the path of Asamoah whose
terrific goal bound volley met an
equally terrific finger tip save by
Adjei.
Adjei again pulled a superb save
from a Nii Adjei bullet, minutes
later.
Hearts then took the game to
the host, with Obed Ansah
taking control of the midfield
with his teasing runs and tales of
near misses and disallowed
goals.
His first was a bicycle kick from
the six yard box which beat Isaac
Amoako in post for Kotoko but
which was ruled offside.
His second was on the stroke of
half when his ‘hand of God’ goal
was disallowed and a yellow card
given. Before that though, Obed
squandered great goal scoring
opportunities which were difficult
to miss than to score.
His first rebound from near post
whisked inches wide after a well
taken shot by Uriah Asante from
the right took a ricochet off the
post.
His second, a misdirected
header, rolled awfully wide with
only Isaac Amoako at his mercy.
Determination
The second half was sublime;
Hearts took charge, with Kotoko
doing the chasing for most part.
The Phobians had a clear penalty
appeal disallowed when the ball
went off the arm of a Kotoko
player in the vital area- sparking
pockets of water pelting from
followers of the Phobians to
register their protest.
Again, a late challenge on Obed
Ansah in the vital area appeared
a legitimate penalty but Cecil
Fletcher had other ideas.
The Phobians looked more
determined and that
determination paid off in 64th
minute when a teasing cross
from Douglass Nkrumah again
went of the arm of Aziz Ansah,
culminating in the penalty kick.
Nkrumah, who himself is a
former player of Kotoko stepped
up, his nerves well checked and
slotted the ball past Amoako for
the only goal and the third
straight defeat suffered by the
Porcupine Warriors at their own
back yard.
Edward Affum who came in early
for Alex Asamoah struggled to
perform largely due to a rugged
Philip Buampong.
Hearts cruised to two successive
victories in the Glo league whilst
Kotoko plunged to two
successive defeats in 9th week
long Glo Premier League.

Real Madrid CoachJose Mourinho: OnlyA Special ManagerCan Succeed SirAlex Ferguson AtManchester United

Real Madrid manager Jose
Mourinho insists that "only a
special manager" can fill Sir Alex
Ferguson's shoes at Manchester
United when the Scot calls it a
day.
The Red Devils boss will be 69
years old in December, and
there has been speculation
concerning who could replace
him in the Old Trafford hot-seat
after his retirement.
And Mourinho is not surprised
that several managers have been
linked with the potential job
opening at the club. There have
been reports that Everton
manager David Moyes and
Barcelona's Pep Guardiola have
both been linked with the
position.
However, the Portuguese coach
does not envision Ferguson
walking away from United in the
near future.
"Football without Alex Ferguson?
I ’m not sure that will happen any
day soon," Mourinho told The
Mirror.
"The man lives and breathes
football and Manchester United
is his club.
"His hunger and desire to win
the biggest trophies remains so I
cannot see the day he considers
walking away from football
approaching.
"Like Real Madrid, the
Manchester United job is special
and only a special manager is
good enough to take the job on
if and when it does become
available.
"Of course, jobs like that don’t
become available every day so
the interest will be vast. Like
Madrid, it ’s a job everyone will
want."
Real were one of the clubs
linked with a move for Wayne
Rooney after the forward had
expressed a desire to leave Old
Trafford. But the 25-year-old
recently did a u-turn and signed
a five-year contract with his
employers.
And the former Chelsea boss
insists that the outcome was
never going to be any different.
He said:"Could I ever see him
leaving? Never. He is Manchester
United through and through and
he is working with one of the
best coaches in football. He ’s a
great player but he belongs to
United. I wasn ’t surprised to see
him stay, I expected it.
"There was no way Alex
Ferguson would have considered
selling him, not to anyone. If you
take the decision to leave a club
like United there are not many
options open to you. Few clubs
come any bigger."
For now, however, Mourinho
remains intent on guiding the
Bernabeu boys to silverware.
"Madrid is a special club and
came to me at special time in my
career," he said. "After winning
my second Champions League
and after my success at Chelsea
and Inter, the Real job and the
challenge to be successful was
very appealing.
"I came to a team that had had
no success for two years and
faced the challenge of a very
special Barcelona team and
some of the great clubs in
Europe in the Champions
League.
"Despite everything and all the
success I have enjoyed, my desire
to continue winning remains. I
love a challenge and this is a
huge challenge for me.
"Madrid didn’t win the
Champions league for 10 years,
the Spanish Cup for 19 years
and haven ’t won the
Championship for three. So
there is a great deal of work to
be done. I love the pressure and
that is immediate at a club like
this because failure doesn ’t sit
comfortably with anyone."
Mourinho also believes that he
has about 15 years of
management left in him, insisting
that retirement is not something
he will consider anytime in the
near future.
"I still have at least 10 or 15
years left in football
management," he said.
"Naturally a day will come when
my circumstances change and I
will want to lead a quieter life.
"But it is not something I will be
giving any consideration too for
a long time to come."

Step-By- Step Guide To Nani's Controversial But Legal Winner For Manchester United vs Tottenham

When Manchester United and
Tottenham go head-to-head,
controversy is a given, and it
usually tends to go in favour of
Sir Alex Ferguson & Co.

Ferguson: I thought Gomes
made a mess of it
Player Ratings: Manchester

Redknapp slams 'scandalous'
Nani goal
Today was exactly the same,
while also being just a little bit
different.
With 85 minutes on the clock,
Manchester United were up one
(perfectly legitimate) goal to nil.
Nani then broke into the area
and went down under pressure
from Kaboul.
Was it a penalty? It's clear the
pressure put on Nani was not
enough to bring him down, and
he somewhat simulated his fall.
But it's also clear that Kaboul
did, at one stage, briefly tug
back the winger with both
hands, which is a foul. So
perhaps it could have gone
either way, depending on any
given referee's interpretations of
the rule.
Referee Mark Clattenburg did
not give the penalty, but that
was the least of the controversy.
After that, as Nani dramatically
scrambled around on the floor,
he scooped the ball with his
hand. As no penalty had been
given and the ball was still live,
this, technically speaking, was a
foul.
However, neither the referee nor
his assistant blew or flagged for
a foul.
They may not have seen the
incident, or may have seen it, but
then seen Spurs goalkeeper
Heurelho Gomes pick up the ball
moments later and, on that
basis, waved play on. Spurs had
recovered the advantage.
Gomes, though, then rolled it
out to take what he believed was
a free kick. Even most players on
the pitch seemed to believe,
because of the way Gomes had
gathered the ball, that it was a
free kick.
However, Nani was alive to the
decision (or lack thereof) and
jogged in front of Gomes before
giving a couple of sheepish
glances towards the referee and
eventually - over the course of a
few seconds that seemed to go
on forever - tapping the ball in
the net.
Blown fuses | But the matter of
fact remains, the whistle was not
Whether the initial incident was a
penalty, a dive, or a non-issue is
irrelevant.
Nani's handball was either not
spotted or deemed 'cancelled
out' by Spurs recovering
possession via Gomes.
After Nani scored, Gomes
immediately darted towards the
referee's assistant, gesticulating
frantically that Nani had handled
the ball. Gomes had believed he
was taking a free kick, but did so
without realising that the whistle
had never been blown.
Failure to play to the whistle cost
Spurs in what was a cruel and
confusing incident. They were
already one down with just five
minutes to go - so by recent
standards, this was one of the
less controversial encounters
they've had with United - but
ultimately, they will count
themselves unfortunate to be on the receiving end of yet more confused officiating.

Kotoko-Hearts, Ghana's version of "El Classico"

Accra, Oct.
28, GNA - Matches between Kumasi Asante
Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have in
recent times been tagged as Ghana's version
of "El Classico" following the intense rivalry
that has characterized their outings.
No other description best fits clashes between
the two sides, because El Clasico, a Spanish
tag is used to refer to games between Real
Madrid and Barcelona and encounters
between Hearts and Kotoko represent the
same in Ghana.
And Sunday will be no exception, when
Hearts trek to the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi
to take on Kotoko in the ninth week Premier
League game. It is a known fact that matches
between the two sides knows no boundary,
form guide, status on the league log and
availability of materials, hence are
approached purely with passion and
emotions from the two camps, making the
outcome highly unpredictable.
Taking a critical look at the performance of
the two sides in the eight week old
premiership, it is easy to conclude that they
are indeed not in the best of shapes to sell
out a match typical of a clash between the
nation's most glamorous clubs or an El
Clasico.
The Porcupine Warriors have not been all
that consistent and are currently placed at
the third position with 13 points, three clear
points behind the League leaders, Kessben
FC whilst the Phobians hang out at the sixth
position, a situation contrary to previous
years' when the first and second spot on the
table was rotated among the two top Clubs
of the country.
Nonetheless, the tension, passion and
emotions that characterize such matches will
still remain a regular feature come this
Sunday. However, putting aside all the
mentioned factors, Hearts seem to have a
slight psychological advantage over Kotoko
following the results of their last games which
may a yardstick for an assessment, as well as
the double recorded by Hearts over Kotoko
last season. Kotoko have since the start of
the season struggled to win matches at their
favourite Baba Yara Sports Stadium and they
suffered in their last game with a 2-3
embarrassing defeat at the hands of city
rivals, King Faisal last Sunday.
Hearts however on the other hand
succeeded in hammering Wa All Stars 3-0 at
the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra, even though
they have also struggled to win matches at
the capital's stadium, but have been quite
impressive in away matches this season.
Tactically, Kotoko by virtue of their strength
in attack having scored ten goals as against
Hearts who have six to their credit gives clear
indications of victory tilting towards the
Porcupine Warriors if the likes of Alex
Asamoah, Louis Agyeman and Edward Affum
who may be in attack for them take
advantage of their scoring opportunities.
Their shaky defensive set up coupled with
recent howlers from number one goalie Isaac
Amoako in the last game against King Faisal
could, however, spell doom for Kotoko if
Hearts' Edwin Osei "Pele", Uriah Asante and
Wilson Adoh also make use of their chances.
Hearts will also take further advantage from
the strength of their rear power force where
the pairing between Karim Alhassan and Osei
Bonsu in central defence with Owusu Sefa
and Bobbie Ansah on the laterals, backed
with safe goalkeeping from former national
number one, Sammy Adjei who had ensured
they conceded only three goals as compared
to five by Kotoko in the League so far.
Irrespective of the above, statistical, tactical,
psychological and emotional factors that will
be at play on Sunday, making a prediction
ahead of the match could be way off target,
but the side with the highest level of
aggression and positive approach to the
game may be heading home with the three
points.
At the other League centers, a regional clash
between a star studded side Bechem Chelsea
will welcome troubled B.A. Stars at the
Golden City Park at Berekum, with Dwarfs
seeking to outdo inform New Edubiase at the
Cape Coast Stadium.
In other matches, badly bruised Wa All Stars
will aim at making amends at their favourite
Wa Stadium as they welcome defending
League champions Aduana Stars, while
Liberty Professionals take on 'giant killers'
King Faisal at the Carl Reindorf Park,
Dansoman, Accra. The two struggling sides of
the season so far, Tudu Mighty Jets and Real
Tamale United (RTU) will sort themselves out
at the El Wak Stadium, Accra whose outcome
may not be surprising with Ashantigold doing
battle with Berekum Arsenals at the Len Clay
Stadium, Obuasi after chalking an
unbelievable victory over Lions in Kpando.
Kpando Heart of Lions would have to dig
deep into their arsenal to make an attempt at
putting off gear the championship aspirations
of Kessben FC who have shown a resilience
this season.

POLITICS CORNER

Listening to Rawlings’ speech
on June 4th 2010, I’m really
reminded as to why Barack
Obama in his speech to
Parliament said Africa does
not need strong leaders but
strong institutions. All over
the continent, whether it is Hosni
Mubarak in Egypt, Colonel Gaddafi in
Libya, Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe,
or Jerry Rawlings in Ghana, we have
created these legends that can do no
wrong. These leaders have always
found themselves in the limelight
and are so used to being worshipped,
that they cannot live without it.
Rawlings seems to have
misunderstood Matthew 21: 12-13.
The Bible says “Jesus was angry and
drove the seller and the gambler out.”
It did not say he crucified them.
Granted in 1979, Ghanaians were
calling for the blood to flow and that
it did however it did go overboard.
We were yearning for Rawlings in
1979 because we were taking giants
steps backwards, but taking two
steps forward when you had the
potential to leap forward is no reason
for us to continue to hear the same
stale message of justice and
accountability. It has been 31 years
since June 4, 1979, and the masses
are still not very far ahead. Young
men and women are still trooping
into Accra to sell dog chains, our
education system thanks to the JSS/
SSS system is probably worse off than
it was, food is still stuck in the
hinterland because of the poor state
of our roads, our cocoa and lumber
are still exported without any
processing and we are still so
dependent on the IMF/World Bank.
So in 2010, to remind a kid who had
to grow up without his father
because his dad took out a loan of
GHC50, 000 is rather harsh and
uncalled for. Imagine what would
occur today we if used that same
threshold of justice. Just like Mugabe
did with the land redistribution in
Zimbabwe, we all witnessed what
happened with most of Ghana ’s state
owned enterprises that were divested
during the Economic Recovery
Program. The Mabey & Johnson case
has also shed more light on how
companies won contracts or did
business during the Rawlings
administration. The NDC was not
voted out of power in 2000 because
Atta Mills was not ‘half-cast’,
uncharismatic and did not speak with
a locally acquired foreign accent, it
was voted out because Ghanaians
were tired of the same old, same old.
I believe Rawlings perception of
justice is for Mills to investigate and
prosecute every official in the Kuffour
administration including Kuffour.
What Rawlings more than anyone in
Ghana should know is that the
Attorney General’s office has a finite
amount of resources at its disposal
and it would not be proper for the
Mills government to use resources
earmarked for other developmental
projects to satisfy his party founder .
The dilemma here is: Does Ghana
need to spend a significant amount
of human and financial resources
prosecuting former officials or should
we have a genuine dialogue about
curtailing the spending powers of
future government? Rawlings was
quick to reference the U.S. justice
system and Obama. I would ask
Rawlings to confer with the prisoners
being held in Guantanamo Bay how
they feel about the U.S. justice system
or better yet ask Mexican Americans
how they feel about SB 1070. In a
recent interview, Obama was asked
how angry he was about the BP oil
spill. His response was even though
he was angry, he was channeling that
anger towards finding solutions for
the oil spill.
Rawlings needs to channel his anger
towards making the executive branch
of government in Ghana less corrupt
and less powerful. He could make
himself relevant again by speaking
on the need for a total independent
legislature instead of harping on the
tired slogan of justice and
accountability. Even the guy selling
dog chains in the streets can talk
about injustice and corruption in
Ghana but for someone who has
been head of state for 19 years, we
expect concrete solutions to these
problems. Suggest check and
balances that we could put in place
to ensure the injustice and
accountability of past administrations
do not occur in the future. Start
dialogue about some much needed
constitutional reform. Propose ideas
so the excess of Ghana @ 50 does
not happen again. If Rawlings is
really concerned about the masses,
he needs to talk about how
presidents and former presidents
should have their compensation
taxed. If A.M.A. is able to tax the petty
traders, then surely presidents and
former presidents with more disposal
income should be taxed. He needs to
talk about how in 50 years Ghana
cannot sustain the current
compensation packages given to
former presidents and former MPs.
It is interesting to note that out of all
the soldiers who took part in the
June 4th revolution, none of them
was present to mark the anniversary
with the Rawlings. Whether it is June
4th, 31st December or NDC 1, it
seems like most of the member of
the AFRC, PNDC or NDC have fallen
out of favor with Rawlings. It can
mean one of two things: It is either
they disagree with the Rawlings way
of doing things or Junior Jesus is the
only one who knows what is right for
Ghana. You might not like Atta Mills,
or you might believe the perception
that he is too slow but you cannot
deny the fact that he is the right
person after two polarizing leaders
such as Rawlings and Kuffour.
Whether it was banning his ministers
from going to South Africa for the
World Cup or making sure Ghana
benefits from the sale of the Kosmos
stake in the Jubilee oil field or
something as simple as giving the
directive to civil servants to turn the
televisions off during office hours.
Finally, no past head of state had the
guts to take the very unpopular
decision to increase the tariff on
utilities even though the utility
companies were being heavily
subsidized by the government.
Leading up to the 2012 general
elections, you are going to hear more
from Jerry Rawlings about justice and
accountability. You are also going to
hear the same stale message from
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings
and I want you to think of Hillary
Clinton: First she bought a house in
Chappaqua, N.Y., then she ran and
won a senate seat and finally she
decided to cement the Clinton legacy
by becoming president. We have seen
the re-emergence of the 31st
December movement, and then we
saw Nana Konadu become the Vice
Chairman of the NDC. It is clear what
she needs to do to further cement
the legacy of the Rawlings ’.
Remember Obama’s words!

Story about Muslim CONVERT

My Journey To Islam
Fatima
This is my Revertion(convertion)
story:
I was a conservative Christian --
even had a website ,
www.sharissa.conservative.com(which
no longer exsists) so anyway -- one
late night, June of 2001 ,-I was up
late in a Christian chatroom on AOL.
And I met a guy in there, who I
knew , knew a lot about God. And we
started talking about God and things.
So then I asked him,"Are you a
Christian?" Thinking surely the
answer would be , "yes". but it wasn't
yes. It was "no". Then I asked him
was he ever a Christian, and he
said,"Yes, I was once a Christian". So
I was astonished, and I was like,
"well,Why aren't you a Christian any
longer?" And he told me exactly why
(and I forget his exact words)
But I know he said that the Creator,
isn't His creation, nor apart of His
creation. He doesn't PROCREATE, so
He has not ,sons,daughters,wives,ETC.
Therefore, He begets, nor was He
beggoten,-None are comparable to
Him. He alone is the Creator and
Sustainer of the worlds. There is only
one God. ETC. ETC.
So then I was like,"wow, okay "...then
I asked,"what religion are you now?"
And he said ,"I am a muslim." .. So
then I was like wow ,okay cool, you
know. And I said well you believe in
just one God, and that Jesus(as) was
only a prophet of God. And he
said,"yes". So then later own though
the week he Instant Messaged me
-- but even though what he had
said to me spoke truth to me, and he
seemed like a real nice & smart
person.
I was always "busy", or "doing
something", didn't have enough
time" ETC. ,ETC. I felt I was Christian
and that I needed to grow more in
my faith as a Christian. And when I
was online
I would ignore him to talk to my
Christian friends online.. or to read a
Christian website ETC,ETC. Then one
night I guess, I was just plain bored.
So the guy Instant Messaged me. And
we started talking, and he asked
me ,"Have you ever read the Qur'an"?
And I was like,"what the heck is the
Qur'an?" Because
I heard of the Qur'an before , but I
always seen it spelled "Koran". So
then he told me to go to the "life-
koran" chatroom on AOL. And so I
did. And he told me to ask them what
the Qur'an was , and ask them any
other questions I might have. And so
I asked them what the Qur'an was.
And then I met a person in there
named Jamaal, and he Instant
Messaged me the next day , and over
the course of the summer, Jamaal
taught me about Islam when I was
online.
And Islam started to make real sense
to me(acually it made since when i
met the fiirst muslim to me) So then
it was August ,and school had
started, and after school started I
didn't really chat too much about
islam, I didn't go into the chatroom
that much, I wasn't online as much
ETC. But I would talk to Jamaal when
I would see him online. And so then
here came September 11th. And
WHOA, another reason to learn more
about Islam. (by the way I suggest
the website
ISLAMDENOUNCESTERRORISM.com,
and I say to you that killing
innocents, is AGAINST the very
essence of Islam) So I started to go
into the Islamic chats more. And then
one day in October me and Jamaal
had a pretty good conversation on
Islam. Then after that I wanted to be
a muslim so bad. And I asked him
HOW DO I BECOME MUSLIM? And
he was like, well it isn't that
simple--you have to take shahadah.
And So he explained to me what
shahadah is. And basically,Shahadah-
is the profession of faith of a muslim,
that is when he/she says,"There is no
God ,but God- And Muhammad
(peace be upon him) is messenger of
God."And so then I started reading
more of the Qur'an online. Then one
day in early November Jamaal asked
me was I ready to take Shahadah,
and become a muslim. And I was
like,YES ,YES, I been ready . And so
on November 3rd, 2001, (it might
have been the 4th because I was up
until 4 that morning) Anyway I said
Shahadah.. ..."THERE IS NO GOD ,BUT
GOD -AND MUHAMMAD(PEACE BE
UPON HIM) IS THE MESSENGER OF
GOD" And I was a muslim at that
moment, and I felt so much at peace
-- like I had the pressence of angels
around me (which I'm sure I did).
And that is my story.~~~
~*May God guide us all to the
straight path, to the truth. Ameen.*~

Brazil set to win 6th world cup

Brazil are considered by many to be
the favourites for the 2010 World Cup
and experienced midfielder Gilberto
Silva has acknowledged that the
Selecao are going to South Africa to
win the tournament.
"We are not here to have a good
time. Our message is we want to be
champions. If I told you we shall be
champions then I'll need a crystal
ball," the former Arsenal star was
quoted as saying by reporters.
"I cannot say that, but since we
started working three and a half
years ago to get here that's what we
have been working towards. We want
to get to the final and win it once we
get there.
"I have the potential to make a big
contribution. The issue of my age at
one stage annoyed me, but now it
has been a source of inspiration. You
can be sure of my motivation. I owe
that to myself after all the criticism of
which I have been the object of."
Brazil are paired with Cote d'Ivoire,
North Korea and Portugal in the
group phase of the World Cup.

Myjoyonline.com: Rawlings barks at Mills to stop marking time
